Loose Women star 'would not give up train seat for pregnant woman'

A broadcaster has controversially declared she would refuse to give up her train seat for a pregnant woman.

Carol McGiffin told her Loose Women colleagues that she would make a special effort for the elderly, but not a pregnant person, according to The Mirror.

She said: "I wouldn't stand for a pregnant woman because they're not sick, just pregnant."

She added: "It's not my fault - I didn't get them pregnant."

The claims come after a woman made headlines by describing an unfortunate exchange on a train from Cheltenham to Nottingham.

Amanda Mancino-Williams, who is pregnant, said a couple of pensioners told her that her seat reservations "didn't matter" and the pair refused to move for Ms Mancino-Williams and her children.

Following that news, ITV show Loose Women asked its panellists to discuss the question: 'Who should get seat priority on public transport?'

But Ms McGiffin, 59, appeared to cause sharp intakes of breath when revealing her stance on the matter.

Former X Factor contestant Stacey Solomon asked: "What if a pregnant woman needed a seat?"

In response, however, Ms McGiggin said: "They should have booked."

The comments triggered some criticism on social media.

One person tweeted: "I absolutely would give up my seat for a pregnant woman because if they were to fall or anything happened to them or the baby I’d never forgive myself."

Another wrote: "Pregnant women are pregnant, not ill. Boils my blood when people say this, especially as I’m 20 weeks into a difficult pregnancy and still throwing up all day every day."
