Loose Women star Gloria Hunniford's husband left 'blind' after second stroke

Gloria Hunniford has revealed the terrifying moment her husband was rushed to hospital and left partially blind after suffering a stroke.

The ITV Loose Women star and her second husband, Stephen Wray, 78, enjoyed a romantic day out at the Chelsea Flower Show just four weeks after his stroke. Speaking to The Mirror, the couple opened up about the terrifying ordeal that left him partially blind in his right eye.

"I woke up in the morning and there was blood in the eye and that was it. I can see a little but not that good," he told the publication. "It is from the heart to the eye, and then from the eye to the brain, so it is damaged."

He added: "It is the first time I have had something like this with the eye. I had to go to hospital – then Northfield [Hospital, West London] and then neurology but thankfully it was not a long wait at A&E.

"I just went straight through. I am coping OK with it all. It’s fine but just disorientating.'" It comes after 83-year-old Gloria suffered a medical incident of her own. At the time, Gloria admitted she was "very worried".

Gloria was previously admitted to hospital after suffering a nasty fall where she broke her eye socket, but praised NHS staff for their help. "Thankfully the ambulance was able to bring the skin over, otherwise I would've lost a lot of skin," Gloria added to The Mirror.

"I cracked the bone under my eye... there's a bone around the eye that holds the socket in place," she explained. "So, as long as the muscle holds it in place I should be ok."

Gloria admitted: "I thought 'if " can get a Phantom of the Opera mask to cover [her face] that would be great'. I've not been able to go down the mall because I don't have anyone to do my makeup." Gloria admitted she "didn't know where I was" in hospital and shared: "I was very worried about a clot forming in my head."

In 2020, Gloria praised NHS staff after they saved Stephen's life after he fractured his spine in a car accident the year before.
