Loose Women star Denise Welch shares rare behind the scenes photo with King Charles III

Loose Women's Denise Welch has shared a rare throwback snap of her beaming across from King Charles III during his visit to the Coronation Street set.

The image showed the actress, known for playing Corrie's Natalie Barnes, smiling behind her spot behind the Rovers Return bar.

Denise looked thrilled to be stood across from the monarch who made a cameo to the show during a live broadcast on December 8, 2000, to mark Coronation Street's 40th anniversary.

Denise took to her Instagram Stories to upload the throwback snap with the caption: "The King and I," making reference to the movie of the same name.

The actress, 64, holds her hands together as she beams at the at-the-time prince, who holds a crystal glass and smart suit with a striped shirt and tie.

The plotline that brought the Royal to the set saw him visit Weatherfield where Councillor Audrey Roberts, played by Sue Nicholls, was presented to him.

Following filming, King Charles III unveiled a plaque commemorating the visit that was then attached to the outside of the set.

King Charles III became King earlier this week when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II peacefully died at the age of 96 on Thursday. The Queen is reported to have had her family by her side as she passed.

The following day the new King addressed the nation, passing on his title of Prince of Wales to his son and next in line to the throne Prince William.

During her time on Coronation Street Denise made an effort to help the younger cast members deal with the stardom that comes with being cast on the show – confessing she was pleased to be older when she joined the cast.

Speaking on Loose Women, she said: "You became incredibly famous in a short space of time.

"I was in my late 30s when I went into that and I actually started a 'starter pack,' for the young people who went in there, because they would come in at 16 and 17, straight from school and within a month they were mobbed everywhere they went.

"And I didn't feel that they got enough support and then they didn't know who their friends were, they didn't know if boys liked them, because people might go 'oh first world problems,' but it actually mentally very hard for them.

"So I think success when you're older is easier to deal with."
