Loose Women star Denise Welch reveals anguish over death of her mum who she calls her 'rock'

Denise Welsh talks about the devastating loss of her mum

Denise Welch has revealed on Loose Women how her late mother helped in her mental health battle.

The Geordie actress appeared on the ITV show on Tuesday where she spoke about her mum Ann, who died of cancer in 2012.

In an emotional moment, Denise called Ann her "rock" and revealed how she would visit her backstage after filming wrapped.

She joked that her mum would say "I'm going to kill you" for things Denise blurted out live on air.

However, the star admitted Ann was a "great loss".

"She knew when I was poorly, even when I had my depression," revealed Denise, who previously revealed mental health issues had once left her bedbound.

"Even if I was sitting here smiling and chatting to guests and everything I'd go up to my dressing room and my mum would say 'you're not well are you?

'"She could see in my eyes.

"I miss her very much."

Tynemouth-born Denise, 61, previously urged people with mental health issues to "reach out and talk about it" in a video posted on Twitter.

The former Coronation Street star previously became an ambassador for mental health charity Mind.
