Loose Women sparks tea debate with Janet Street-Porter's unusual brew confession

The perfect cup of tea has always been at the centre of British debate.

While some prefer a milky brew, others like it a little stronger in taste and colour.

And it's not just what the tea looks like that's up for debate, how it's brewed has also caused many arguments.

Is it tea bag first, then milk, finally followed by hot water? Or should the milk always go in last?

Loose Women sparks tea debate (ITV/Loose Women Twitter)

Given how much effort Brits put into the perfect cup of tea, it won't come as much of a surprise that Janet Street-Porter's latest comments on the Loose Women panel have caused a bit of a stir (pun intended).

During a segment about being thrifty, Janet confessed that she uses one tea bag for three cups of tea.

The other Loose Women were left shocked, pointing out that the tea would be watery as a result, unphased Janet quipped back "I like watery tea."

And it's safe to say the confession caused somewhat of a debate online.

"One tea bag, one good cup of tea, anything else is just wrong," wrote one fan.

Another added: "#LooseWomen one tea bag does three cups of tea? Only if you have no taste buds Janet."

And a third commented: "One tea bag = three cups of tea. Not the ones I buy. #DishWater #LooseWomen."

Not everyone disagreed though, with many sharing their own thrifty tea tips.

One wrote: "I knew a man who used to hang them on a small line in a kitchen to dry and use them at least five times over."

A second added: "I make my tea in a teapot, I use one tea bag and use the contents of the pot throughout the day by pouring a dash of tea into a cup and topping it up with hot water........delicious!"
