Loose Women slams stars who profit from black culture amid Jesy Nelson blackfish scandal

The Loose Women panel addressed the current ‘blackfishing’ scandal which is at the moment, very prevalent in the showbiz industry.

Loose Ladies Charlene White, Kelly Bryan, Brenda Edwards, and Sunetra Sarker all shared their thoughts on the controversy which saw former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson being accused of ‘stealing black culture’ earlier this month.

Following the release of her debut solo single Boyz, Jesy, 30, faced harsh criticism from her avid fanbase as they accused her of ‘trying to look black’ in the music video which featured none other than P Diddy and Nicki Minaj.

And on Thursday’s instalment of Loose Women, the panelist all shared their thoughts on ‘blackfishing’ - and how it effects them first-hand.

Panelist Kelly Bryan said that she feels aggravated by the whole trend – adding that there’s an extra layer of disrespect due to the fact that the stars who are blackfishing never had to go through any form of racism but still reap the benefits of black culture.

“I just think it’s hugely unfair to those of us who are black – and those of us who have had to deal with certain aspects of being black,” she told.

“I don't get to take off my skin colour at the end of the day like those people who are profiting off my culture.

"They take the money but they don't take the rest of the things we all have to deal with."

Elsewhere, Loose Women star Brenda said that from a young age, she was bullied because of her skin colour.

Brenda said now that her attributes are ‘on trend’, people aspire to look like the way she did all her life.

“I was called rubber lips in school. There weren't that many black girls in my year,” she explained.

“I had a flat-back bum and had huge lips. I just find it really hard now with some people jumping on to think they are protecting black people.”

Loose Women viewers flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts too.

“Completely agree with everything Kelly has touched on on Loose Women. The Kardashians have been stealing culture for years,” one viewer wrote.

“Blackfishing is simply the worst,” another shared.

“Loose Women ladies speaking nothing but truth today. Out with people trying to rob black culture,” someone else insisted.
