The partner of Loose Women star Jane McDonald has died after a battle with lung cancer.

Ed Rothe, 67, died on March 26 after battling the disease over the last few months, BirminghamLive reports.

A drummer for the Sixties band The Searchers, Mr Rothe had been in hospital for his final months, a statement on behalf of the television presenter said.

The message, shared on Ms McDonald's Twitter account, said: "It is with immense sadness that we share the news that Jane’s beloved long term partner, Ed, passed away on Friday 26th March. He had been battling lung cancer for the last few months. We would like to thank everyone for all their help and support during this very difficult time, especially the NHS staff and the wonderful team at The Wakefield Hospice.

"The funeral took place earlier today and we would please ask for your kindness in observing Jane’s privacy for her and Ed’s family at this sad time."

On Wednesday fans of the singer and panellist were quick to offer their condolences.

One fan replied: "Oh Jane sweetheart I am so sorry to hear this terrible news, you both were a true love story, night night and God bless you Ed. Jane, sending you my sincere condolences and lots of love."

Another added: "My condolences to Jane and the family. I have been watching the cruise programmes recently and in almost every one she mentions her beloved Ed. So very sad to read. My heart goes out to her."

Another person said: "Oh Jane, you finally met the one, your roast beef to your Yorkshire pudding. So very very sorry for your loss. My sincerest of condolences & remember he’s only ever in another room xxx"
