Loose Women's Denise Welch emotional moment as she breaks thrilling family news

Loose Women star Denise Welch teared up on today's show as she shared her joy about becoming a grandmother for the first time.

The presenter announced the exciting news during her appearance on the ITV show when she became visibly emotional about marking a major milestone in her life.

Denise, 64, was absolutely beaming at the prospect of becoming a granny as she confirmed stepson Lewis Townley and his wife Elizabeth welcomed their first child a few days ago.

Her co-stars were overjoyed with her as they celebrated the happy news on the show, reports The Mirror.

Sharing in her happiness were fellow panellists Charlene White, Sophie Morgan and Brenda Edwards all offered their congratulations.

She added that Lewis and Elizabeth had not yet shared photos yet and she didn't want to share too much more. Denise said she was overjoyed to now be a "nanna" as she shared her excitement.

She said: "My husband and I became nana and grandad two days ago. My stepson Lewis and his wife Lizzie gave birth to a beautiful little boy. I can't say much more because they haven't done the photo reveal."

Last year, Denise took to social media to post a sweet picture of the unborn baby in a 12-week ultrasound scan, which she wrote alongside: "Congratulations @lewtownley and @Elizabeth_Townley_ Cope on your first baby. We are thrilled."

The presenter and actor has two sons Matthew and Louis from her marriage to Tim Healy, who she split from in 2012. In 2013, she married Lincoln Townley, 50, who has son Lewis from a previous relationship.

The happy news comes after Denise admitted she was "fearful" at the start of her third marriage as she explained how the "fear" was caused by her alcoholism and depression, whilst Lincoln was also "fighting his own demons" at the time.

She shared: "Nobody gave us a cat in hell’s chance. How many people go on to have a successful nine-year marriage after meeting in those circumstances? That feeling of fear grips you. We were at rock bottom.

"We say we saved each other’s lives. When you get sober, you have to have an anchor and for some people that’s AA, for some people, it’s other support groups. For Lincoln and me, it was each other."

The pair are happier than ever now and she describes Lincoln as her "anchor".

"We were party animals, two people in a mess, when we first met. My marriage was in freefall and I was drinking too much. Being with Lincoln could have been the most explosive disaster, but it went the opposite way. We've been each other's anchor," she added.
