Denise Welch has offered an emotional update about her dad Vin’s health on Loose Women.
Speaking on Thursday’s instalment of the ITV panel show, Denise offered an update on her Vin dad after he had suffered poor health following surgery on his gallbladder.
Speaking to fellow panellists Kaye Adams, Judi Lov e and Nadia Sawalha, Denise said: “My Dad - and this is the first time since Christmas that I’ve been able to say this - is doing so well.
“He’s constantly asking me, how many hits did that get on Instagram?”
Denise thanked Loose Women viewers for their kind messages of support after she feared she would lose her dad to his health issues.
However, she commented getting him home helped to “love him back” to health.
“We went to my step-son’s wedding a month ago, Dad was eating nothing. It was so hard to get the calories in him.
“So, I went to the wedding, his mobility was increasing, he came with us. I went with a bag full of all his meal supplement drinks. I turn around at the wedding, he’s with a Pimm’s and a cigar.”
She noted that a major turning point in her dad was when her husband Lincoln had a “tough love chat” with him when he came to stay with the couple.
Denise went on: “He said, ‘Look, Vin, we can see that you’re mentally back there, but what you’re not doing is taking responsibility for your calories. You have to take responsibility for staying alive as well, you want to go home and be independent.’”
After this, Denise noted how her dad was then consuming a large fish and chips meal the next day at a hotel in Hertfordshire, and has since been told off for eating too many Kit Kat bars.
Denise’s co-panellist Judi Love praised Denise for being so “open and honest” about the struggles with her dad on the show and on social media.
Denise admitted she “choked up” as she thought he was too deteriorated in health to get to dance with her again as he always but then they got to dance again together on the patio, prompting her to share the video online.
“So many people had sick loved ones through this year,” noted Denise and credited this for people connecting to her family’s story.
She also thanked her co-panellists for their help and support through the difficult time.
Later in the show, they were joined by Emmerdale's Isabel Hodgins and EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite.
