Loose Women's Christine Lampard welcomes big change as show 'cut' by ITV

Christine Lampard welcomed a huge change to Loose Women on Monday, just as show was delayed and its 'special day' overshadowed by the new Conservative leader announcement

With the eyes and ears of the nation on the reveal of who out of Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak would take over from Boris Johnson and ultimately become the next prime minister, normal programming was interrupted o n ITV in the lead up t o the winner being confirmed. The closing moments of This Morning were dominated by the live political coverage as Truss discovered she had received 57% of the Tory vote.

The rolling live broadcast ate into Loose Women on the same day that the lunchtime talk show had some big news of its own, with the return of a studio audience for the first time in over two years. Loose Women ended up starting 20 minutes late as a result of ITV making a hasty adjustment to its schedule.

Looking cool and composed. despite the delay, host Christie opened the show with the line: "Hello and welcome to your Monday Loose Women ,live...and we're not alone, the audience are back," as the camera panned round to show a packed crowd in front of the presenter and her colleagues Brenda Edwards, Gloria Hunniford and Janet Street-Porter."

Reacting to the cheers in the studio, Christine added: "It's so lovely to see you all. You're all shiny, happy people, it feels great and we need that today I think," before joking that the 'very big news of the day,' was that Janet was working on a Monday for the 'first time ever.'

The opening minutes of the delayed episode were dominated by the breaking news about Liz Truss with Brenda and Gloria riling Janet up with their opinions on the future PM, before she left Brenda in despair with a dig at Meghan Markle, as she and husband Prince Harry returned to the UK.
