Loose Women's Charlene White sobs in angry rant after heartbreaking family tragedy

Loose Women's Charlene White broke down in floods of tears as she recalled a heartbreaking family tragedy on today's show.

The presenter was joined by Linda Robson, Nadia Sawalha and Carol McGiffin on Thursday's edition of the popular ITV programme.

The panel discussed the fallout from Boris Johnson's admission that he attended a "bring your own booze" garden party at Downing Street during lockdown restrictions.

Charlene blasted the Prime Minister as she emotionally recalled how her family stuck by the rules at her auntie's funeral last year.

She said: "We had to bury family members without even being able to hug each other.

"I had to sit in a crematorium while my aunt was buried and because I wasn't living in the same household as my brother or sister, I had to sit in a pew by myself with my baby daughter on my lap, all in floods of tears and couldn't hug each other."

"I stood by the graveside as grave diggers were filling that grave and watching my cousin in floods of tears and not being able to hug her because we were following the rules. Because we didn't know what else to do.

"We were told we had to follow the rules so we were following the rules with the understanding that those in charge were also doing the same thing."

She continued: "Then you get situations like this and you think, should I have just hugged my cousin.

"If we weren't all supposed to follow the rules should I have just hugged her."

The Prime Minister has faced calls to quit from within the Tory ranks after admitting attending the event in the No 10 garden on May 20 2020.

Mr Johnson apologised in the Commons yesterday and insisted he believed it was a work event.

He said: "I want to apologise. I know that millions of people across this country have made extraordinary sacrifices over the last 18 months. I know the anguish they have been through - unable to mourn their relatives, unable to live their lives as they want or to do the things they love. I know the rage they feel with me and with the Government I lead when they think in Downing Street itself the rules are not being properly followed by the people who make the rules."

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV and ITV Hub
