Loose Women panel gasp as Janet Street-Porter calls Andrea McLean a 's**t' live on air

There were gasps in the Loose Women studio today after the panel's debate took a major turn.

The ITV show's panelists Andrea Mclean, Janet Street-Porter, Coleen Nolan and Brenda Edwards covered a variety of topics on Tuesday's show but it was one about noisy eaters and eating crisps at a cinema that prompted a shocking outburst.

This left Coleen having to apologise to those who may have been offended before cutting to an ad break.

It came after Janet argued that it was "common" to eat at the cinema or at the theatre.

When Andrea responded to jokingly say: "That's the nicest thing you've said to me," Janet's response took things one step further.

The 73-year-old shocked her fellow stars, the live studio audience and viewers at home by blurting out: "You're a s**t Andrea", prompting a mix of shock and nervous laughter.

As Andrea smiled in complete surprise, Coleen quickly threw her arms up in the air and said: "Finally! I've been waiting for this moment. You should be proud of being called that. I wish I was that," as she continued to tuck into a bag of crisps on the desk.

Janet then hit back again: "You are anyway, that goes without saying."

As Janet continued to talk, Andrea attempted to end the chat and let viewers know what else was still to come.

However, Coleen then had to cut in and say: "Before you got any further Andrea, I have to apologise for anyone offended by Janet."

But a perplexed Andrea said: "I couldn't apologise for it as I didn't even know what she said."

Viewers at home couldn't quite believe it either and expressed their views on Twitter.

"Jeez what Janet should said was awful #LooseWomen," said one.

Another said: "That was a bit uncalled for right?"

"I came on here just to see if I heard right, seems I did," a third viewer confessed.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
