Loose Women 'in awe' of Kate Garraway's courage after Derek Draper documentary

Loose Women's hosts Kay Adams, Gloria Hunniford, Janet Street-Porter and Brenda Edwards were emotional on Wednesday's show as they discussed Kate Garraway's documentary.

Kate Garraway: Finding Derek, documented Kate's husband Derek's horrific Covid battle that left him in intensive care and in a medically-induced coma.

The tear-jerking programme, which aired on Tuesday on ITV, showed just how ill Derek was as Kate struggled to stay afloat without him, rarely able to visit him in person.

Kaye said: "I watched it last night and I knew we were going to talk about it today, but I thought, 'What can I say?'

"The strength, the courage of Kate, Derek, the whole family, it was humbling and I thought, 'How is she carrying on?'

"And it's not like me to be overemotional, but I guess it's love, that's what's keeping that family going."

Brenda said: "I was taken aback by the positivity she showed, love can keep everybody together, and if you are all together on the same page, thats half the battle with any illness.

Janet added: "I was really moved by her courage and determination to hold on to him, you could see that it was made doubly difficult because she wasn't there in person it had to be done through screens and phones, it was unspeakably difficult, she was just a heroine."

Kaye replied: "Towards the end of the documentary we see there is real cause for hope and and strength is bringing dividends, and we have to hope that Derek will make a recovery, but I think Kate appreciates their life may never be the same.

She added: "The rest of us can only really stand back and give them our support, love and admiration, and we all very much wish that the progress we started to see at the end of the documentary really does continue.

"Kate Garraway, we are in awe of you".
