Loose Women fans praise Katie Piper as she calls for tougher sentences on acid attacks

Loose Women fans have called Katie Piper "inspiring" as she appeared on the ITV show this morning, calling for tougher sentences over acid attacks.

On today's show, Katie made her return to the panel alongside Jane Moore, Nadia Sawalha and Christine Lampard after celebrating her birthday.

The TV star, who was attacked by her obsessive ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch and an accomplice 13 years ago, spoke about her recent rush to hospital for an emergency procedure on her oesophagus after choking on some food.

Thankfully, she is healing well after the hospital scare, but the conversation led the Loose Women stars to talk about Katie's harrowing 2008 attack and how her life has "never been the same".

"It's not just something that's just about beauty or the psychological effects. There's the functional - my oesophagus - your life will never the same again, in many different aspects," she told the panel.

"I do think the sentencing and the charges bought before the perpetrators need to reflect the severity of what the victim has to live with.

"I think, for me, it probably needs to be reclassified," said Katie. "It's becoming part of our modern culture. It's very depressing to have to say that.

"It's a slur that's thrown around on social media as a threat. it's becoming the weapon of choice for a lot of people because it carries a lesser charge. I do think the law needs to be updated with a reclassification so the sentencing can be increased."

Katie says she is "lucky" and "grateful" to be where she is today, as some of the people she has met through her foundation haven't been, and have had to have further operations to be able to heal.

Fans watching today's segment took to Twitter to praise the star for being so "remarkable" and "inspiring".
