Loose Women cuts to ad break as Coleen breaks down live on air

Coleen Nolan's return to Loose Women was dramatically cut short when the producers at ITV were forced to switch to an ad break during her emotional appearance.

Coleen broke down in tears live on the show as she discussed her sisters' cancer battles.

Coleen was speaking live on air for the first time since Linda, 61, and Anne, 69, were both diagnosed with cancer in March.

Both are now undergoing chemotherapy and have shaved their heads.

Linda has incurable cancer in her liver and she previously battled breast cancer in 2006, cellulitis and lymphoedema in her arm in 2007 and secondary cancer on her pelvis in 2017, reports The Mirror.

Anne has stage three breast cancer, the most serious being stage four.

Their sister Bernie died of breast cancer in 2013 and now, Coleen is considering a double mastectomy.

Appearing on a video call from her home, she told Andrea McLean, Judi Love and Denise Welch of her heartbreak at not being able to visit Linda and Anne.

Coleen recalled wanting to hop in the car and drive straight to Blackpool, but couldn't because they're at an "incredibly high risk" of coronavirus now that they're going through chemotherapy.

"They have terrible days when they're incredibly ill," she said, "I can't go and see them because they're incredibly high risk."

She added that they're being looked after by other sisters Maureen, living with Anne, and Denise, living with Linda.

As they spoke more on the topic, Coleen couldn't hold back the tears, and Andrea called for an ad break.

When they returned, Coleen said she'd cried because talking about her sisters makes it all feel real.

Coleen and the show have since been swamped with tweets commending hers and her sisters' remarkable courage.

One tweeted: "My heart is aching watching today. Life is so bloody cruel to some. Ladies, your compassion and love for Coleen shines through. Love to all the beautiful Nolan sisters."

Another wrote: "I'm astounded by the strength of the Nolan sisters and by Coleen for being able to speak so openly. Much love."

"Sending hope and love to Linda, Anne and Coleen," a third offered.

Linda recently appeared on Good Morning Britain, telling co-hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway that she now sees "Bernie looking back at [her] in the mirror."

Asked how their family had responded to their joint diagnoses, Linda explained: "It's really difficult and I don't think we could have done it without our family being so close."

Linda added: "I had chemo in 2006 and I used cold cap, which they put this cap on and freeze it and it freezes the follicles of your hair.

"I managed to keep my hair a little bit the last time but this time they didn't have a cold cap that fitted, oddly enough, so that's why my hair fell out.

"I was traumatised by it. I feel vain saying that the worst thing is that I don't have any hair but it has been traumatising for me."

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
