Loose Women cancelled today to make way for Euros 2020 coverage

Loose Women has been cancelled today to make way for the Euros 2020.

The ITV daytime chat show - which debates the latest news and national talking points - has been bumped from its regular TV slot to make way for the football coverage.

Ruth Langsford confirmed the news during Wednesday’s episode of Loose Women, which was cut short by half an hour.

"Short and sweet today because of the racing," she explained ahead of the Royal Ascot coverage. "And we’re not here tomorrow either, because of the football."

However, she assured that the daily panel series will return to its regular slot Friday afternoon.

Ukraine v North Macedonia will kick-off at 2pm, broadcast live from the National Arena in Bucharest.

Loose Women is one of many shows that are being moved around the schedule thanks to the football tournament, which will run for the next three weeks.

The disruption has led to soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale both becoming available as box sets for the first time.

Over the course of the competition, Corrie and Emmerdale will drop at the beginning of the week on ITV Hub before its air date.

The move is a test run allowing fans to watch at their own convenience around the live football matches and wherever they’re broadcast.

Speaking about the decision, Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod said: "There are loads of key rivalries across the Cobbles this summer and I think it will be like following your favourite team - there will be times where they let you down, make mistakes and maybe score a few own goals.

"But you’ll back them till the end and woe betide anyone else who criticises them.

"Given how exciting the stories are, it’s great that fans will have the chance to binge-watch all the episodes on ITV Hub at the start of each week - as with football, sometimes when it’s an exciting face-off, you really want extra time.”

The soaps follow in the footsteps of EastEnders on the BBC, which announced it was doing the same thing as well.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
