Loose Women airs special tribute to say goodbye to host Ruth Langsford

Loose Women aired a special tribute to Ruth Langsford on Wednesday to say goodbye as she headed next door for the summer to work on This Morning instead.

She and husband Eamonn Holmes will be covering for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, after being booted off the show and replaced with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary last year.

Denise Welch began: "I think we would all feel very guilty if we didn't remind the viewers that Ruth, of course, is leaving us for the summer to go next door to join her darling husband and do her summer of This Morning.

"So we thought we would give you a little surprise and show you your Ruth's best bits."

A video package then played of Ruth having fun with her fellow panelists on the show as well as showing off her best stern face.

Ruth explained: "I'm not leaving , because normally when you do a best bits everyone goes, 'Thank you, it's been lovely working with you.'

"I'm going next door, Eamonn and I will be on This Morning for about six weeks then I will be back.

"But I'll be talking to you all every day because we do the handovers!"

Ruth - who had starred This Morning for 14 years alongside Eamonn - told OK! Magazine : "We’ll be doing seven weeks from July. I’m looking forward to it."

The TV veterans were said to be "blindsided" at being replaced as well as "furious and upset" about the axe when it was revealed by The Mirror.

It has been reported they have were warned not to speak out over presenter shake-up from This Morning.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: "Ruth and Eamonn are obviously upset and feel humiliated about being put out to pasture.

"But they’ve been advised to keep schtum or risk losing more work.

"It could damage their brand if they lash out."
