The city of Chicago started closing streets around Grant Park in preparation for the four-day Lollapalooza music festival.
Balbo Drive was closed in both directions between Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive on Monday, according to the Chicago Department of Emergency Management and Communications. Rolling closures also started Monday on Jackson Drive between Columbus and Lake Shore.
The closures will remain in effect through Aug. 9 for the fest, which runs from Aug. 1-4 in Grant Park. Headliners include The Strokes, the Chainsmokers, Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, Twenty One Pilots, J Blavin, Ariana Grande and Flume.
Last year’s festival drew crowds of more than 105,000 people to the park on each of its four days, during which 12 people were arrested and 160 were hospitalized.
OEMC officials did not immediately respond to requests for information about any further street closures or parking restrictions that will be implemented as the festival approaches.
