Looney tunes: Iguodala sings praises for the Warriors’ backup big

Golden State Warriors center Kevon Looney has become as integral for the team’s success as anyone. He comes off the bench although, arguably, he could be a starter on other teams. And his coming off the bench is similar to veteran forward Andre Iguodala coming off the bench — skilled players capable of making big plays to lead a dynamic second unit.

In the first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers, Looney is averaging 11.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 17.7 minutes per game. His play has been so impressive that fellow bench guy, Iguodala, took notice and put the NBA on notice, too.

Acknowledging the ability for momentum shifts to impact players’ attractiveness to teams, when asked if he hopes Looney re-signs with the Warriors this summer, Iguodala said he does not want Looney to stay in Golden State if the big man can get paid elsewhere:

I hope he gets paid, so I hope he doesn’t come back because I hope he gets all the money.

Looney is currently on a one-year contract worth $1.5 million.
