As the ACT eases gently out of lockdown, home buyers and sellers have been afforded small changes to restrictions from Friday, October 15.
It comes as Canberrans celebrate their first day of freedom, with social gatherings and hospitality capacity limits among some of the biggest changes.
The Real Estate Institute of the Australian Capital Territory (REIACT) has confirmed the following restrictions have eased to assist buyers and sellers across the ACT.
Can I attend a property auction?
The first major change to come into effect is the restart of in-person property auctions.
From October 15, outdoor auctions can take place in the ACT with 25 people or one person per four square metres, whichever is lesser. The limit does not include staff, but does include the seller of the property.
At this stage, only bidders will be able to attend an auction and all other public health directions should be followed, including check-in and wearing a face mask. Online auctions are also expected to continue in the coming weeks.
How can I inspect a property?
Buyers and renters can only inspect a property in-person via 15-minute, pre-booked appointments with real estate agents. Only one individual or household and the agent can attend and all residents must leave the premises while the inspection takes place.
These rules will remain until October 29 when open homes will resume across the ACT with a 25-person limit in place.
Can I travel to NSW for an auction or inspection?
Yes, ACT residents can cross the border to inspect a property for sale or participate in an on-site auction within the NSW postcode bubble only.
While in NSW, attendees must follow NSW requirements, which includes providing proof of double vaccination.
Can I prepare my home for sale?
Yes, COVID-safe guidelines are in place to allow properties to be listed for sale in the ACT.
Building inspections and appraisals can be arranged for a new listing, while photography and videography is also permitted in line with gathering limits.
Home styling and staging providers can attend a property to prepare it for sale but must operate in accordance with gathering limits, ensuring all social distancing requirements are followed.
