Looking for a Pancake Day upgrade? Nutella shares its favourite Shrove Tuesday recipes

There is nothing wrong with the humble pancake, but once in a while you might want to try something a bit more exciting than a crepe with a bit of sugar on.

Nutella is one of the UK's favourite pancake day accompaniments. So much so that almost a fifth of Nutella's annual UK sales come in the three weeks before Pancake Day , the hazelnut and chocolate spread brand says.

But what can you do with Nutella on Pancake Day? You don't have to be satisfied with simply spooning some onto a crepe and rolling it up.

Nutella has shared two of its favourite Pancake Day recipes - crepe skewers with Nutella and fluffy buttermilk pancakes with Nutella, mango and raspberries.

If you're out to impress with your crepes this year, here's how to make them.

Crepe skewers with Nutella

Crepe skewers with Nutella (Nutella)

Ingredients

A teaspoon (15g) of Nutella per person

2 eggs

14g butter

65g plain flour

230ml whole milk

Fresh fruit, such as strawberries, banana and kiwis

Vegetable oil

Method

Pour the milk and flour into a bowl. Mix the eggs with the melted butter into another bowl, then mix the contents of the two bowls together

Let the batter rest at room temperature for 15 minutes

Heat up oil in a pan, then pour batter to make crepes that are 1cm thin and 25 in diameter. Cook on both sides until they turn an even, golden colour

Spread a teaspoon of Nutella onto each crepe. Roll the crepes and cut them into rolls of approx. 2cm

Take a wooden skewer and alternately add pieces of fruit and crepe rolls

Fluffy buttermilk pancakes with Nutella, mango and raspberries

250g self-raising flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1 ½ tbsp. caster sugar

360ml buttermilk

2 eggs, separated

1 tbsp. vegetable oil

A pinch of salt

Butter for cooking

A teaspoon (15g) of Nutella per serving

Raspberries and fresh mango to serve

Method

Sift flour, baking powder and caster sugar into a bowl

Separate the eggs and mix the yolks with buttermilk, then add this mixture to the dry ingredients

Whisk the egg whites then fold these into the batter

Rest the batter for 10 minutes

Heat butter in a pan, then cook each pancake for around one minute or until small bubbles appear on the surface

Turn over and cook each pancake for a further 30 seconds, until golden and thoroughly cooked

Top with raspberries, sliced mango and a teaspoon (15g) of Nutella per person
