If you are in the market for a health plan, the road ahead is tough. There are 23 companies with more than 400 products out there. Mint has always stood for clarity and the 2016 edition of Mint SecureNow Mediclaim Ratings (MSMR) brings you a medical insurance ratings to cut through the clutter.

This year the package is more comprehensive and we go ahead of the previous rating, not only in terms of policies but also in the scope of their options. Policies from 23 non-life companies, including stand-alone health insurance companies, were analysed over two months. In all, more than 400 policy combinations were rated, versus about 280 in July 2015. This meant a lot of work for us, but for you, the customer, this is a huge positive as it signals that the health insurance market is expanding. Even senior citizens—a market that is under-served—now have more choices than they did some years back.

Remember that the best mediclaim policy may not be the cheapest. There are other parameters that determine the best plan, such as exclusions, co-payment and waiting periods. Yes, it is technical, but no, you will not find it too tough.
