Looking back on 60 years of Beatlemania

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24 screengrab

On March 22, 1963, the Beatles released their first album "Please Please Me", rocketing the foursome to international fame. Six decades on, we look at how Beatlemania transformed Liverpool, the northern English town where it all began. We also head to Deauville, Normandy for a diverse collection of work from renowned Vogue photographer Irving Penn. Meanwhile, our team in Dakar has been speaking with 89-year-old Senegalese photographer Adama Sylla, who spent decades capturing stunning images of his hometown, Saint-Louis. After almost a lifetime of flying under the international radar, his work is being shown in Paris for the first time.

Finally, we look at a gender-bending production of "Romeo and Juliet" where the cast is rearranged each night, and at an exhibition bringing together Impressionist rivals Edouard Manet and Edgar Degas.
