Look: Saints Fans Up in Arms After Jamaal Williams Put BBQ Sauce on Crawfish

New Orleans is known for its delectable and signature seafood. Gumbo, jambalaya and crawfish are just a handful of some of the amazing dishes found there. They’re all delicious, at times spicy, and maybe the most important trait they all share: You don’t eat them with barbecue sauce. Unfortunately, one of the city’s newest residents broke that edict in a video that has since caused great alarm among Louisiana natives.

Jamaal Williams signed a three-year deal with the Saints in March, but he’s off to a rough start when it comes to ingratiating himself in his new environment. The team posted a video Saturday of the running back trying crawfish—and proceeding to put barbecue sauce on it despite teammate and New Orleans native Tyrann Mathieu advising him not to.

Williams says he wishes the crawfish were fried, and then he puts the sauce on it, prompting a woman in the background to say, “That is wrong.” He then tries to deflect the disappointment by pointing out that former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis puts mayonnaise in his coffee.

Needless to say, Williams’s actions and choice of words didn’t sit well with fans and observers.
