A West Lothian dad who saved a young lad from taking his own life by jumping from a bridge is urging everyone to look out for each other.
Daniel Halloran managed to grab the teenager, who had been about to jump from a fly-over bridge in Livingston.
He said he never did find out who the boy was, but is encouraging us all to “make sure your young ones are ok” following a number of tragic suicides over the last few months.
Daniel said the boy was only around 14 or 15 with shoulder length blonde hair and had put a message on social media asking for anyone who recognises him to check on his wellbeing.
He said: “Make sure your young ones are okay.
“I was just walking over the fly-over bridge that leads from Ladywell into Craigswood and this lad was leaning against the railing looking over the dual carriage way.
“As I got to the point where I was almost walking past him, he threw his right leg over the railing.
“At that point I grab his arm and he turned to me crying. I couldn’t make out much of what he was saying, but his two pals were walking up beside the woods coming from Craigshill and shouted him then ran to him.
“I managed to get him to climb back over and he just dropped at my feet and cried, his mates were with him.
“I couldn’t stay as I had to go pick up my kids but I saw in the distance him and his two pals walking off the bridge and into Craigswood.
“I believe the young lad was never identified. I’m not sure if he was even a local lad.”
Daniel had written about the frightening experience on a local Facebook page after he called the police to let them know what had happened.
Over 100 members replied, saying they were glad Daniel had been there to help.
One said: “Thank God you were there. You must be a bit shaken up yourself.”
Another posted: “I am so glad you were there when you were.”
