Look inside stunning new south Bristol café with an arts and crafts edge

North Street has welcomed some cracking cafés and restaurants in recent years, and the latest to open is likely to be a hit with Instagram users.

Farahway opened on September 11, replacing Madras Express. It is now completely unrecognisable from the former Indian takeaway.

The café has arts and crafts running through its core with a workshop at the back which can be hired out by local artists and makers, and this theme is highlighted by the beautiful design with patchwork walls, bouquets of flowers dotted around the room and eye-catching artistic touches.

Owner Farah Merali told Bristol Live: "I've always wanted to own my own café so it feels great to finally open," said the 27-year-old, who has left her career in pensions to launch the venture.

"For a long time I've been into arts and crafts, mainly because my mum had her own workshop when I was young, which is why I wanted to add that element to the café.

"We're also going to sell craft kits and we're thinking about introducing arty things for kids to do when they come in.

"It's taken a lot of time transforming Madras Express to where we are today but I'm really excited about the future.

"It's a fantastic space and there's potential to open the beautiful outdoor area at the back too."

Farahway serves a range of hot and cold drinks while its food menu will only consist of a selection of toasties to begin with, but Farah is hoping to add to the food offering a little further down the line.

Farahway can be found at 223 North Street, BS3 1JJ.
