OK. I have to admit — this one really baffles me. It’s no secret that Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has come under increased scrutiny, often of the seemingly manufactured variety, but I am blown away by how far some that are supposedly experts at what they do are taking it.
Now, before I lay waste to one NFL draft analyst, I want to be clear that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if this person gets it right, I’ll be the first to tip my hat, send him an apology note, and walk away sucking my thumb in the corner of whatever dark, post-NFL draft corner of nowhere I can find.
All that being said, NFL.com’s landing spot for the former Heisman finalist, two-time Big Ten quarterback of the year, and freakish athlete is a curious one. I mean, you can argue about falling out of the top ten, but this goes way further than that and you’re going to be surprised where Charley Casserly has Fields going in his latest NFL mock draft — or so we think.
NEXT … Where Casserly has Fields coming off the board
No. 24 overall (YES!) to the Pittsburgh Steelers

What Casserly says about the pick
“Pittsburgh is the perfect spot for Fields to develop behind a Hall of Fame quarterback for a year before taking over the offense.”
OK.
I can’t disagree that Pittsburgh would be a fantastic landing spot for Fields to get comfortable and play for a historical winning franchise. I also believe that if he’s still available when it comes time for the Steelers to pick him, Tomlin will literally send someone to the hospital trying to knock women, children, and intimate objects out of his way to get to the phone. This is all probably driven by the comments Tomlin made about being at Ohio State’s pro day mainly to check out Fields.
However, I would bet everything I have that Fields isn’t falling that far. In a quarterback league, and with the talent and high ceiling he possesses, someone is going to trade up if Fields gets past San Francisco at pick No. 3. You can take that to the bank.
And, if that just so happens to be the Steelers. Fine. But it ain’t happening at pick No. 24. My guess is he doesn’t get out of the top ten at worst.
