Look: DawgNation comes to Rodrigo Blankenship’s defense following loss

Saturday’s loss to South Carolina will leave a bad taste in Bulldog fans’ mouths for a years to come. Losing to an unranked SEC East team at home was bad enough, but with their 3rd string quarterback…now that’s ugly.

The Dawgs got called for an illegal shift at the end of the 4th quarter, sending them to the South Carolina 43 and pushing them beyond graduate senior kicker Rodrigo Blankenship’s career high. The kick would’ve been about 60 yards had Kirby Smart allowed him to take a whack at it

Hot Rod got another chance from 42 yards out to tie the game in double overtime, but missed just left.

In total, Rod’s number was called three times yesterday. He went 1/3, making from 50 and missing from 53 and 42.

After the game, many were quick to blame Hot Rod, including the kicker himself in a postgame interview. But it was a team effort and a game in which Georgia was favored by 24 points should not have come down to the leg of a kicker.

Twitter came to the rescue, as Dawgs fans gave their unconditional support to the Georgia football legend that is Rodrigo Blankenship.

The overwhelming support of Dawgs fans is a good look and should hopefully be some motivation for the team to sharpen up as a whole.  The Bulldogs kickoff Saturday in Athens again in what is now a huge conference game against Kentucky.

The Bulldogs completely control their own destiny and can use this game as fire to the fuel for their season.

Go Dawgs, and remember to always #RespectTheSpecs.
