Always look before you leap.
That's what Brazilian striker Anderson Lopes will be sure to do in future, after the 25-year-old made a shocking misjudgement in celebrating a goal in a match between his side Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo and Shimizu S-Pulse in the J-League.
Lopes, who was yet to score for new club Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, broke his duck on his home debut, scoring a penalty just before half-time.
Then, in the second half, the striker hooked the ball past the S-Pulse 'keeper from five yards out to give his side a 3-1 lead, and celebrated by vaulting the advertising hoardings at the Sapporo Dome.
Unfortunately, the Brazilian did not realise there was a 3-metre drop on the other side of the barrier and having realised his error too late to pull back, crashed to the concrete below.
Concerned players rushed to his aid after the Brazilian flew down the steep drop, but fortunately, Lopes was able to dust himself off and return to the pitch, applauding the concerned supporters as he went.
Lopes went on to score a further two goals in the match to help secure a 5-2 victory — becoming the first player in the J-League to score four goals in a match since 2012.
Incredibly, players disappearing off the field whilst celebrating a goal is not without precedent.
FC Zurich's Kosovan striker Benjamin Kololli disappeared into a moat after scoring the only goal of the game in a Europa League clash against AEK Larnaca in Cyprus.
Kololli hurdled two sets of barriers after scoring the 61st-minute spot kick in September last year, and promptly disappeared from view.
Once again — save a bruised ego — there was no damage done and Kololli was able to continue.
