Lonzo Ball uses one word to describe Zion Williamson: ‘Freak’

Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart made their ESPYs red carpet debuts on Wednesday and, of course, people had plenty of questions about their next chapter with the New Orleans Pelicans after being dealt in the blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.

ESPN hosts Cassidy Hubbarth, Katie Nolan and Dianna Russin caught up with Hart and Ball and asked them about their first impressions of their newest teammate, No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson:

Ball: Freak. That’s the first word that comes to mind: Freak.

Hart: I don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone just get ‘big boy’d’ like that before in my life. He’s a freak, he’s strong, dumb bounce. He’s a nice kid, very nice kid. Young kid, too.

The word “freakish athlete” has been used to describe Williamson in the past, but never “freak” alone. Maybe Ball and Hart know something the rest of us don’t know.

In all seriousness, Ball sounded pretty excited to take the floor with Williamson, saying he “can’t wait” to connect with the 19-year-old on their first alley-oop slam dunks. If both Ball and Williamson develop the way they’re expected to, they’ll be teaming up for a lot of those over the next few years.
