Lonzo Ball tested his revamped shot in a 3-point contest against J.J. Redick

In the few looks we’ve gotten at Lonzo Ball’s shot, it’s been clear that the third-year point guard has taken some steps to improve his mechanics. The shot is shorter, more centered and the ball doesn’t go all the way to the left side of his head.

On Thursday, Lonzo really wanted to put that shot to the test. He went up against J.J. Redick in a 3-point contest — one of the NBA’s best shooters — and honestly put forth a solid effort.

The Pelicans shared video of the post-practice competition on Twitter. Lonzo really thought he had it won against the career 41 percent 3-point shooter.

As we noted, Lonzo’s shot does look better. We’ll have to see if he actually brings the ball down to his waist during games because that’ll be a separate issue. But hey, improvement is improvement.

Still, I could watch J.J. Redick shoot jumpers in an empty gym all day. That shot is perfect.
