Lonzo Ball says LaMelo has chance to be better than him

While Lonzo Ball has proven to be a worthwhile and productive NBA player, his youngest brother LaMelo could yet be the best prospect in the Ball family. Despite only being in Australia and with the Illawarra Hawks for a few short months, LaMelo has shot up draft boards.

Already standing as tall, and possibly taller than, Lonzo, LaMelo has the physical makeup to be a dominant lead guard. In an Athletic article with Shams Charania, Lonzo recently talked about his brother and whether he could be a better player than either of them.

“’Melo has a chance to be a better player than me, for sure. I feel at the same age, he’s better than me. In real time, I don’t think he’s better than me.

“But I’m the big brother so I’m always going to have that edge over him.”

Lonzo also discussed the advice he’s giving LaMelo, who is venturing through Australia in his first season in the National Basketball League.

“I’ve told ‘Melo: Just learn. We know he has the talent, now it’s about whether he can be coachable and does he put the work in? As long as he does both of those things, he’ll be great.”

The best attribute LaMelo can gain at this point is, as Ball noted, knowledge. He has all the physical tools and the skillset to be successful in the next league. Learning how to apply those skills and how to use his body while playing professionally against grown adults.

If he can harness those skills effectively, he can become a better prospect and potentially a better player than Lonzo.
