Lonzo Ball says he now makes his own decisions for his career, life

For much of Lonzo Ball’s amateur and professional basketball life, LaVar Ball has been seen as the primary decision-maker for all matters regarding Lonzo. However, in the wake of the Alan Foster scandal and after the birth of his daughter, Lonzo has spoken multiple times about taking control of his life.

During his appearance on the Woj Pod with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Ball was asked about his relationship with his father and what separating family and business will have on his future.

“I mean, like I said, my dad’s been talking my whole life so I mean it’s nothing different to me. I think what makes it easier is I’m controlling everything now. You really can’t tell me what to do. It’s my life, my career. I’m making all the decisions now. I chose to go to CAA. So, I don’t know. I think me becoming my own man is going to make it easier honestly.”

When Woj asked if the Foster situation was the deciding factor in him becoming more active in his future, Ball agreed but also noted that the birth of his daughter, Zoey, as having an effect on him.

“There was two things. There was that whole situation with the brand and then me having my daughter. I feel like those two things kind of shaped me to what I am now. I’m a lot different than the kid I was last year. Between those two, I think that’s what happened and now I am what I am.”

This is not the first time Lonzo has stated his daughter’s birth changed his outlook on his life. However, it is the most authoritative he’s been about the matter. Maybe it’s a sign he’s tired of answering questions about him and his father’s relationship. the handful of comments he’s made in the wake of the “damaged goods” argument have been positive toward his father.

No matter the reasoning for his strong words, the message came across loud and clear.
