Lonzo Ball says being traded for Anthony Davis ‘only a matter of time’

Now with the New Orleans Pelicans, former Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball admits that it was only a matter of time before he was eventually sent away from his hometown team.

Ball, who was sent to the Pelicans along with Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and several draft picks, realized that his time with the Lakers was dwindling when it became clear Anthony Davis wasn’t long for the Big Easy.

“It was only a matter of time before a trade happened,” he said. “I pretty much knew a trade would happen. Any time you have a player like Anthony Davis available, I knew it was going to be my time. I was looking forward to it and I was excited for a new start. Getting out of L.A. for the first time in my life. I’m happy about it.”

Ball was drafted by the Lakers No. 2 in the 2017 draft with the hopes that he would lead the franchise’s resurgence. While he showed flashes of greatness in both seasons, injuries ultimately impeded his Lakers career. But now with a young, exciting team in New Orleans, Ball will have another chance to prove he can be a leader at the NBA level.
