On Monday, the NBA reversed three separate assists originally awarded to Josh Hart during the Pelicans’ game Sunday against the Rockets, resulting in Lonzo Ball being credited for two more assists and retroactively being awarded a triple-double.
Ball’s final stat line for the game is now 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, giving him his first triple-double with the New Orleans Pelicans. It’s Ball’s fourth career triple-double and the first since Dec. 15, 2018, when he and James recorded simultaneous, historic triple-doubles against the Charlotte Hornets.
Ball also becomes the 15th player in Pelicans history to record a triple-double. The last Pelican to record a triple-double was Elfrid Payton, who notched five triple-doubles in an eight-day span late in the 2018-19 season. Chris Paul is the franchise leader in triple-doubles with 11 while Payton has six, all occurring in the 2018-19 season.
The 27 points are the most Ball has recorded in a triple-double in his career. The seven three-pointers were a career-high.
