Lonzo Ball on taking control of life: ‘It’s my life. It’s up to me’

The more and more info that comes out about the camp surrounding Lonzo Ball, the more it appears that those people did not have Ball’s best interests in mine. The latest story is the most glaring example of how little those around him cared about Ball’s future with Big Baller Brand co-founder Alan Foster and father LaVar Ball scheduling an unauthorized surgery on Ball’s ankle that could have voided his contract with the Lakers.

The news, though, comes after Ball has begun cleaning out parts of his camp, including recently hiring Creative Artists Agency to represent him. At his exit interview with the Lakers, Ball talked about the motivations behind him taking control of his future.

“I’m just trying to stay positive and just take more control of my life. It’s my life. It’s up to me what I want to do with it and I’m realizing that.”

Ball gained perspective last year with the birth of his daughter, Zoey. That newfound perspective has played a role in Ball taking control of his situation now that he has someone else’s life in his hand.

“I think it just shapes you as a whole. I think me having a daughter had a lot to do with the things I’ve been doing lately. Just not only thinking about myself but thinking about her and her future as well.”

It’s nice to see Ball has both survived many of the errant paths his camp led him down both did not cost him in the long term and is something that he is learning from as he moves forward. It has been a dicey situation for him as he’s gone along in recent years but, hopefully, he’s turned a page as he separates himself from the bad influences in his life.
