Lonzo Ball on Brandon Ingram: ‘He’s going to be really, really good’

Brandon Ingram had arguably the best game of his career on Saturday, finishing with 35 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in a loss to the Rockets. The contest was the latest game in a torrid start for the forward as he’s averaging 27.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 52.5 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from three-point range.

One of the few people to see Ingram’s development first-hand while playing alongside him has been Lonzo Ball. After spending a pair of seasons together in Los Angeles, Ball, Ingram and Josh Hart were dealt to New Orleans and have called the Pelicans franchise their new home this season.

After Saturday’s outburst from Ingram, Ball was asked after the game about the performance and if Ingram’s mindset has changed this season.

That’s what I expected. Like you said, I’ve been with (Ingram) for the last…three years now so I know what he’s capable of. He’s very hard to guard and he knows how to play the right way.

He’s just playing. That’s how he’s been playing, honestly. Nobody’s really talked about it. I’ve noticed it since I’ve been in the league. He’s going to be really, really good.

The most pressing concern for Ingram’s growth has been his health. In the past, he has shown stretches similar to the one to start the season but those were often interrupted by various injuries.

But Ingram has never played better basketball in the NBA than he is now. If he can finally stay healthy in New Orleans, it could lead to a truly special season for the forward.
