Lonzo Ball held out of Wednesday’s practice for precautionary reasons

After exiting Monday’s game with the Brooklyn Nets early in the second half due to cramps, Lonzo Ball was held out of Wednesday’s practice for precautionary reasons.

Ball did not appear to be in serious pain when exiting the game and remained on the sideline while being stretched out by trainers after the injury. With the Pelicans off until Friday when they host the Raptors, two days off for Ball following the injury could be seen as a way to ensure he is fit and ready to go on Friday.

Ball was in the midst of one of his strongest performances of the season before being forced out of the game. Alvin Gentry noted how strong a performance Ball was having prior to the injury in the postgame.

The cramps occurred to Ball’s right leg and seemingly led to a potential twisted ankle. That is not the same ankle, though, that Ball suffered a Grade 3 ankle sprain that ended his 2018-19 season multiple months early.

Lonzo Ball has been one of only two mainstays in the starting lineup for New Orleans through the opening seven games along with Brandon Ingram. The two have shared the court for 154 minutes this season, the most of any duo on the Pelicans this year.
