Lonzo Ball downplays ‘damaged goods’ argument with father LaVar, says it’s what fathers and sons do

While LaVar Ball is consistently in the middle of the spotlight, he and son Lonzo have never seen the light shine brighter than earlier this month when their Facebook series “Ball in the Family” caught an exchange where LaVar referred to Lonzo as “damaged goods.” Coming in the heat of an argument, the sides downplayed it with LaVar releasing a statement saying the quote was taken out of context.

Still, the situation drew headlines and the attention of fans. On a recent episode of The Woj Pod with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Lonzo addressed the comments and, like his father, downplayed the matter as a whole.

“I think that was the most popular scene on the show. It was everywhere. But it’s part of life. I’m growing up. He has his ways, I have mine. We just got into it. That’s what fathers and sons do. As time goes on, at the end of the day, he loves me, I love him. But we’re not always going to agree on everything and that’s what that was.”

While the quote itself drew attention for many of the wrong reasons, at the end of the day it was a heated argument between the two sides. The Ball family has gained plenty of fame from their series and being in the spotlight but this represents the downsides to that fame. Arguments are common amongst families but when cameras are around and everything is broadcast, the small things can turn much bigger.

Considering the show was recorded multiple months in the past, the family knew what was coming. The fact Lonzo and LaVar haven’t exactly mended fences realtime is worth noting but there’s no reason not to believe Lonzo’s comments. Still, it’s interesting times within the Ball family.
