Lonzo Ball doesn’t think people really listen when LaVar speaks

LaVar Ball is under fire yet again, this time for comments made about his oldest son, Lonzo. During a heated argument with Lonzo over the uncertain future of Big Baller Brand, LaVar called Lonzo “damaged goods,” which — for obvious reasons — caught the attention of both Lonzo’s detractors and fans.

However, while they were harsh words, Lonzo doesn’t seem to care too much about the words his outspoken and unpredictable father uses. In a recent interview with Real 92.3 LA, Lonzo said that he’s more concerned with what LaVar’s saying rather than how he’s saying it:

“I mean, people, I think they listen to how he says things not what he says. Most of the stuff he says, it be crazy, but most of the time it be true. That’s the thing, like, if you really listen to what he’s saying, there’s a message behind it and I know that just because I’ve lived with him my whole life, but other people don’t get it.”

The “damaged goods” scenario is a bad example because the argument between Lonzo and LaVar quickly turned into a challenge to see who could come up with the worst analogy involving a tree, however, there are a few examples of LaVar being right about things, like when he said Magic Johnson was just a figurehead for the Lakers.

Then again, he also said Johnson should have coached the Lakers.

The truth is LaVar says a lot of things, and unless someone is emotionally invested enough to read between the lines like Lonzo is, it becomes white noise after a while. Will that stop LaVar from saying things?

Absolutely not.
