Longtime MLB player Darryl Hamilton found dead at 50

June 22--Former Major League Baseball player and current MLB Network analyst Darryl Hamilton was found dead in an apparent murder-suicide Sunday afternoon in Pearland, Texas, according to police.

The 50-year-old Hamilton -- whose 13-year playing career included stints with Milwaukee, the New York Mets, Colorado, San Francisco and Texas -- appeared to have been shot multiple times, investigators said. Monica Jordan, 44, died of an apparent self-inflicted wound, police said.

Police found the bodies while responding to an emergency call about a disturbance at the couple's house in a suburb of Houston. Hamilton and Jordan's 14-month-old son was found unharmed at the scene.

"We mourn the passing of our friend and colleague, Darryl Hamilton," the MLB Network tweeted Monday morning.

Others responded to the shocking news on social media Monday morning as well.

ESPN's Keith Olbermann tweeted: "This is who he was: If as you saw him at, or heard he was at, a ballpark you'd think 'Good! There's Darryl Hamilton. What a great guy.' "

MLB on Fox reporter Ken Rosenthal tweeted: "RIP, Darryl Hamilton. I can't believe I am even typing this. I loved working with him, loved being around him. Just a fantastic person."

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement: "All of us at Major League Baseball are shocked and saddened by this tragedy. He was a talented and personable individual, and we were proud to call him a member of the baseball family. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest sympathies to Darryl's family and his many friends throughout our game."
