Longford Town part company with manager Daire Doyle

Longford Town have parted company with manager Daire Doyle this evening.

Assistant boss John Martin will step up as interim first-team boss for the rest of the Premier Division season.

Longford are already relegated after just two wins in their 33 top-flight games this year.

A club statement read: “Longford Town Football Club announces the departure by mutual consent of Manager Daire Doyle.

“The club thanks Daire for his efforts over these past seasons.”

Martin will take charge of the team for Sunday’s game away to Dundalk at Oriel Park.

Meanwhile, Martin Russell is one of the managers on Athlone Town’s radar for their vacant job.

The First Division club are in the market for a new boss after Paul Doolin’s decision to step down on Monday.

Doolin was appointed on a short-term deal in August but had told players that he wouldn’t be extending his stay.
