Longford Town appoint Gary Cronin as new manager

Longford Town have moved to appoint Gary Cronin as their new manager.

Cronin joins the First Division side after a three-year spell in charge of Bray Wanderers.

He had two spells at Longford Town as a player, and he also previously served as assistant manager to Tony Cousins.

"I'm delighted to be back at Longford Town Football Club," Cronin said in a statement.

"I've spent 10 seasons of my LOI football career at this great club as a player, coach and assistant so I’m relishing the challenge to manage the club next season."

Longford Town are preparing for life in the second tier after finishing last in the top flight, with just two victories to their name all season.

The appointment comes shortly after Cronin's departure from Bray Wanderers was confirmed on Friday.

The Wicklow club's merger with Cabinteely saw Cronin get offered a lesser role which he rejected.

Bray Wanderers' Director of Football Pat Devlin stated: "Gary has done a fantastic job since he came here. We invited him to stay on and it was Gary's decision to step down."
