Longford man killed in tragic crash named locally as 35-year-old Noel Sheridan

A tragic Irishman who died in a crash in Longford has been named locally as 35-year-old Noel Sheridan.

Mr Sheridan was seriously injured when his vehicle, a black Ford Focus, left the R198 near the village of Arva at Moyne in Co Longford.

The accident happened shortly before 2am on Sunday.

It's understood he was travelling from Drumlish in the direction of Arva when the collision occurred.

Mr Sheridan was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and removed to Cavan General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He was the sole occupant of the car.

Mr Sheridan, from Gaigue, Ballinamuck in Longford and formerly of Ferefad, had emigrated to Perth in Western Australia approximately ten years ago where he worked in the mines.

He had travelled home to spend Christmas with his family, The Irish Independent reports.

A death notice on RIP.ie reads: "Noel will be forever missed by his heartbroken family, parents Michael and Maura, brother Joe, sisters Michelle and Emma, brother-in-law Peter, uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins, neighbours and his many friends here in Longford and Australia."

A wake will be held for Mr Sheridan at the family home in Gaigue on Tuesday, December 31, from 12pm until 9pm with a break for the family from 5pm to 6pm.

His funeral will take place on Thursday, January 2, 2020, in St Colmcille's Church, Aughnacliffe, Co Longford at 12pm, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr Sheridan's family have requested private family time on Wednesday, January 1 and family flowers only.

A one-way system will be in operation from Gaigue Cross to family home, mourners are asked to please follow the signs.

Investigating gardai are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward and anyone with information is asked to contact Granard Garda Station on 043-6687660 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
