Longford champions Killoe hit with 48-week ban after failing to pay €750 fine

Longford champions Killoe Emmet Og have been hit with a 48-week ban after failing to pay a €750 fine over not fielding a team in an Under-16 match.

The clubs will not be able to play any games until next summer if the ban, which is being appealed, is fully implemented.

The Longford Leader reports that the ban came as a result of an unpaid fine by the Longford GAA Hearings Committee last February.

The €750 fine came after Killoe didn't field a team in an Under-16 match against St Colmcille's/St Francis in January.

It is reported that Killoe told the county board that they would not be able to play in the fixture prior to the game.

The Leinster GAA Hearings Committee will hold the appeal.

Killoe club chairman, Gerry Hagan, said: "Emmet Og GAA Club and everyone attached to the Killoe club are extremely angry at the rigid application of the rules in this instance, which has given no regard to the upheaval and challenges that the Covid-19 global pandemic has caused to all sectors of our society, in particular to voluntary organisations like the GAA."
