
The long shadow of the 634-meter-tall Tokyo Skytree stretched from its base in Sumida Ward all the way across the Sumida River in the light of the rising sun on Monday. It was the day of the winter solstice, when the sun travels across the sky at its lowest elevation of the year and the daylight hours are the shortest. The highest temperature was 11.2 C, which is about average for the date.
