Long-term support pledged for Derbyshire businesses affected by devastating floods

Businesses in Derbyshire which have - and continue to be - affected by recent flooding are being offered long-term support to help them get back on their feet again.

A month’s worth of rain fell in just one day in some areas, resulting in significant flooding for parts of county.

A number of businesses in the Derbyshire Dales, Amber Valley and High Peak areas have had to shut due to flood water damaging their premises.

Short-term support is available, including a flooding hardship fund. But now, East Midlands Chamber, which covers Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, is working with partners to offer longer-term support.

It is offering affected firms directly affected by flooding free chamber membership for a year. Those taking advantage of the complimentary membership will enjoy the same benefits available to paid-up standard members, including legal advice.

David Pearson, director of partnerships at the chamber, said: “Local businesses are the lifeblood of communities and we’re pleased to offer our support to those affected at an extremely difficult time.

“The impact of flooding will be felt for some time and by offering free year-long chamber membership, those affected can be sure that the support available to help them recover and thrive will be available short, mid and long-term.

“I would urge businesses in the affected areas to fully explore the extensive level of support available to them – whatever challenges they are currently facing.”

Back in August, the chamber made the same offer to businesses affected by the Whaley Bridge dam drama .

The Derbyshire town, along with parts of nearby Furness Vale and New Mills, was evacuated after flooding caused damage to the dam at Toddbrook Reservoir.

The town was deserted for a full six days, causing unprecedented disruption to local businesses in the area.

Businesses wishing to take advantage of free chamber membership can contact the membership team on 0333 320 0333 extension 1 quoting ‘Derbyshire flooding’.
