Long-term Nottingham City Homes tenant says company has taken months to repair property

A long-term tenant of a Nottingham City Homes property in Hyson Green says the company has taken months to repair damaged blockwork at the front of her house.

Lucille Tainton, 59, of , said three breeze blocks had come loose above her front door.

After reporting the issue to NCH several months ago, she said staff came out to inspect and later visited in September to remove wood from the ceiling of her porch so the blocks could be secured.

This left a gaping hole and Mrs Tainton said NCH staff hadn't been back since to complete the repair work.

She contacted Nottinghamshire Live to highlight the problem - and NCH has confirmed it will refit the blockwork on Monday (December 23) after making the blocks safe on Friday (December 20).

However, Mrs Tainton said she'd been left 'mad', adding: "It could have been quicker (to repair)."

Explaining the situation before NCH came out on Friday, she said: "All the concrete's disappeared, it's crumbled.

"They're working the way forward out of the wall itself.

"Because they've got no concrete holding them, one of the breeze blocks is sticking out quite a bit where it's working its way out.

"The other two are just slotted in, they're not pinned in, they're not concreted in because the concrete's crumbled."

She added: "If they don't come and fix it every time you go in and out the door how do I know that's not going to work out more and drop?

"Plus with there being no ceiling it's letting all the cold in."

Mrs Tainton, who has lived in the three-bedroom property since 1988, said the blockwork had been a problem for about a year.

She explained she reported the issue to NCH several months ago.

Speaking on Friday (December 20), a Nottingham City Homes spokeswoman said: “We have been to the house today and made the blocks safe.

"The bricks in question have been dislodged by some damage to the canopy over the door.

"We will be fully refitting the blockwork on Monday (December 23) and repairing the canopy whilst we are there.”
