Long-standing sports presenter steps down from BBC Radio Nottingham

The main sports presenter at BBC Radio Nottingham has announced his departure after two decades.

Robin Chipperfield, known by many as Chippers, has covered sport across Nottinghamshire for the station since 1999.

In a statement on social media on Thursday, January 16, the presenter of Matchday and Matchnight programmes said he would be moving to Sydney.

"I'll be leaving BBC Radio Nottingham in February after 20 amazing years here," he said. "I'm going to be moving to Sydney to try something a bit different for a while... though I've no idea what yet!

"I want to thank all of my work colleagues, who've largely (!!) been a joy to work with all of this time, especially all of the Saturday afternoon team who have put up with me being miserable and crotchety a lot of the time - thanks guys, you are amazing.

"I have loved working with the county's sporting clubs over this time, and while we've had our ups and downs along the way - as is right - it's been a true honour to cover our teams as best I could.

"Social media has brought huge benefits over the last decade or so (as well as some pretty low moments too), and it's made the job completely different to how it was when I started. But what it constantly reminds me of, is the passion that you all have for sport in this magnificent city and county."
