Long snapper gets mocked on ‘Hard Knocks’ and released by the Chargers all in one day

Tuesday was a rough day for long snapper Mike Windt.

The Los Angeles Chargers released the nine-year veteran, and as if that wasn’t already disappointing enough for Windt, HBO’s Hard Knocks dedicated an entire segment for Jon Gruden to mock him in a film session.

During Tuesday’s episode, the Raiders were going through film study, and Gruden singled out Windt’s mistake against the Cardinals as what *not* to do in a game. He then proceeded to show footage of Windt running onto the field with a football in hand during a Cardinals fumble return.

Gruden mocked how Windt just dropped his football and ran away during live action, and the Raiders players absolutely lost it, laughing at Windt.

Can you imagine if Windt tuned into Hard Knocks after getting released and then saw that? Man, that couldn’t have been fun.

To be fair to Windt, a missed call from the officials during that game put him in the tough spot. Cardale Jones was clearly down before the fumble, and Windt thought the play was over. Though the officials reversed the touchdown after review, Windt was still hit with a penalty.

Missed no-call or not — he has to wait for the whistle.
